Dr. Al-Arian, a former university professor, has been held in jail for the past 5 years by the U.S. gov’t for allegedly heading a Palestinian militant group.

He was once heralded as a supreme advocate of Palestinian civil rights and was even comended in person by President George Bush for his tireless efforts.

He is now considered a terrorist by the US government who has been unable to convict him of any of the 53 crimes he has been charged with despite all the “evidence” they have by way of 11 years of FBI wiretaps and searches, over $50 million spent on trial, 80 witnesses, 400 transcripts of intercepted phone conversations and faxes. Yet they continue to hold him in hopes of pressuring him into a “confession”.

Of course, this is all so the government can save face for being so incredibly wrong.

This could be any of us. Anyone who sympathizes with those that we are taught to hate such as the Palestinians, supposed terrorists being held and relentlessly tortured, anyone of the Muslim faith who may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“You are either with us or against us”, said President Bush. Those words send shivers up my spine everytime I hear or think of them. In a world where there are two sides to everything we have been brainwashed to believe whatever we are told by our gov’t because the people running this country, our beautiful country that has been ravaged by those infected with greed and power, are the only ones who can tell us what is right and what is wrong and to even think otherwise makes you a terrorist and you’re told to get out of this country if you don’t like it.

I love my country. I love my Earth. I don’t believe any human being on this planet deserves death or torture. How that makes me a terrorist, I don’t know?

Companies are being invited to lease the rights to explore geothermal resources beneath Mount Spurr, a snowcapped 11,070-foot volcano that most recently erupted in 1992 showering much of Anchorage with volcanic ash.

The state Division of Oil and Gas hopes the lease sale, due to go ahead in August, will be the first of many. It is also considering allowing exploration of the 4,134-foot Augustine Volcano, 171 miles southwest of Anchorage.

The move echoes a trend underway across much of the US as fuel prices, worries about dependence on foreign oil and climate change trigger a surge in geothermal projects, particularly in the West and along the Gulf Coast.

According to experts, America is only just waking up to the ancient power source lying beneath dozens of states that has the potential to supply as much as 25 percent of the nation’s energy needs.

“High prices and climate change are definitely creating a renaissance in geothermal interest, particularly on a state and local level,” said Karl Gawell, executive director of the Geothermal Energy Association.

“There really is a tremendous amount going on right now.”

This would be so funny and so fitting…

Reagan has his highways. Lincoln has his memorial. Washington has the capital, and a state, too. But President George W. Bush may soon be the sole president to have a memorial named after him that you can contribute to from the bathroom. From the Department of Damned-With-Faint-Praise, a group going by the regal-sounding name of the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco is planning to ask voters here to change the name of a prize-winning water-treatment plant on the shoreline to the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.

The plan – hatched, naturally, in a bar – would place a vote on the November ballot to provide “an appropriate honor for a truly unique president.”

Okay, okay…I know that this is a waste of time and resources on behalf of tax payers. But I just thought the idea was funny enough to warrant some attention.  Hey, we’ve had more frivolous things put on ballots than this.  It’s all in good fun, right?

I will try not to get my hopes up, but it would be a miracle!

You always hear that the reason gas is so high is because of supply and demand. But most don’t know that much of it has only to do with traders speculating at possible future events that MAY happen. If the president mentions the POSSIBILITY of going to war traders freak out and start selling their stocks in oil like crazy pushing the cost per barrell through the roof.

But now, congress is considering passing a bill that “limits speculation in the futures market”. It’s about time they got their asses in gear!

Market Watch

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The price of retail gasoline could fall by half, to around $2 a gallon, within 30 days of passage of a law to limit speculation in energy-futures markets, four energy analysts told Congress on Monday.
Testifying to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Michael Masters of Masters Capital Management said that the price of oil would quickly drop closer to its marginal cost of around $65 to $75 a barrel, about half the current $135.
Fadel Gheit of Oppenheimer & Co., Edward Krapels of Energy Security Analysis and Roger Diwan of PFC Energy Consultants agreed with Masters’ assessment at a hearing on proposed legislation to limit speculation in futures markets.
Krapels said that it wouldn’t even take 30 days to drive prices lower, as fund managers quickly liquidated their positions in futures markets.
“Record oil prices are inflated by speculation and not justified by market fundamentals,” according to Gheit. “Based on supply and demand fundamentals, crude-oil prices should not be above $60 per barrel.”

USA Today

WASHINGTON (AP) — Exactly 20 years after warning America about global warming, a top NASA scientist said the situation has gotten so bad that the world’s only hope is drastic action.

James Hansen told Congress on Monday that the world has long passed the “dangerous level” for greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and needs to get back to 1988 levels. He said Earth’s atmosphere can only stay this loaded with man-made carbon dioxide for a couple more decades without changes such as mass extinction, ecosystem collapse and dramatic sea level rises.

“We’re toast if we don’t get on a very different path,” Hansen, director of the Goddard Institute of Space Sciences who is sometimes called the godfather of global warming science, told The Associated Press. “This is the last chance.”

Would a cooked up “October Surprise” be McCain’s big boost?

This is just appalling. Many political figures have been quoted as saying that we need another terrorist attack to make sure American’s remember that we should live in fear of terrorists.

Alternative News Sources

Top McCain strategist Charlie Black tells Fortune Magazine that a terrorist attack on U.S. soil would aid the Arizona Senator to overturn Barack Obama’s lead and be a “big advantage” in helping him become President.

In an article entitled The evolution of John McCain, Black notes that the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December “helped” the McCain campaign because it gave the Senator an opportunity to grandstand as a tough would-be Commander-in-Chief.

Black then brazenly points out that another 9/11-style attack would give the McCain campaign the boost it needs to claw back Barack Obama’s estimated 7 per cent lead over the Senator.

The assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December was an “unfortunate event,” says Black. “But his knowledge and ability to talk about it reemphasized that this is the guy who’s ready to be Commander-in-Chief. And it helped us.” As would, Black concedes with startling candor after we raise the issue, another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. “Certainly it would be a big advantage to him,” says Black.

In a Washington Times report last month, national intelligence spooks all but promised that history would be repeated for a third time running, and the new President of the United States will be welcomed into office by a terror attack that will occur within the first year of his tenure.

In addition, shocking excerpts of confidential recordings recently released under the Freedom of Information Act feature former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld talking with top military analysts about how a flagging Neo-Con political agenda could be successfully restored with the aid of another terrorist attack on America.

The latest example was former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who during a Long Island bookstore appearance stated, “The more successful they’ve been at intercepting and stopping bad guys, the less proof there is that we’re in danger. And therefore, the better they’ve done at making sure there isn’t an attack, the easier it is to say, ‘Well, there never was going to be an attack anyway.’ And it’s almost like they should every once in a while have allowed an attack to get through just to remind us.”

In August last year Philadelphia Daily News columnist Stu Bykofsky openly called for “another 9/11” that “would help America” restore a “community of outrage and national resolve”.

Lt.-Col. Doug Delaney, chair of the war studies program at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, told the Toronto Star last July that “The key to bolstering Western resolve is another terrorist attack like 9/11 or the London transit bombings of two years ago.”

The same sentiment was also explicitly expressed in a 2005 GOP memo, which yearned for new attacks that would “validate” the President’s war on terror and “restore his image as a leader of the American people.”

Also in July 2007, former Republican Senator Rick Santorum suggested that a series of “unfortunate events,” namely terrorist attacks, will occur within the next year and change American citizen’s perception of the war.

And the month before that, the new chairman of the Arkansas Republican Party Dennis Milligan said that there needed to be more attacks on American soil for President Bush to regain popular approval.

Absolutely disgusting. And conservatives like to say that Liberals are terrorists? I’m sorry, but terrorists are the ones who condone attacks on the United States. Terrorists are the ones who approve of torture against their enemies. Terrorists believe the ends justify the means. These are all things that conservatives and Bush supporters have always bought into. It’s TRUE liberals who think these kinds of things are vile and disgusting to bestow upon their fellow human Earth inhabitants no matter what the circumstances.
